Leaders of Workers Party of Bangladesh on Sunday at a discussion in Dhaka called on Bangladesh Nationalist Party to rule the country by restoring spirit of the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war.

They made the demand in a discussion organised by the party at its central office premises on Topkhana Road, chaired by acting president Mahmudul Hasan Manik, to mark the 56th anniversary of declaration of ‘Swadhin Janaganatntrik Purba Bangla’ on February 22, 1970 at Paltan Maidan.


Former student leader and acting general secretary of the party Nur Ahmed Bakul said that after victory of July Uprising in 2024 which ended fascist rule of Awami League government, now the country must be ruled by the BNP government after it restores the spirits of liberation war in 1971.

‘After July Uprising, the Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus-led interim government geverned the country for 18 months, destroyed the spirits of the liberation war and arrested a large number of people, including the Workers Party president,  in murder cases filed for killing of  movement activists during the uprising,’ he said.

He called on the BNP government to take steps to end the cases and give Rashed Khan Menon bail in the case immediately.

Central leaders of the party Abul Hossain, Abu Taher, Touhidul Islam, Mostafa Alamgir Ratan, Dipankar Saha Dipu, Zakir Hossain Raju, Mursheda Akhter Nahar and others spoke at the discussion.
