Chelsea are closing in on Emiliano Martinez after agreeing a £7.5 million fee with Aston Villa for the Argentina goalkeeper, with the 33-year-old due to undergo a medical in London, according to the BBC and The Athletic.

The Blues have moved for the World Cup winner after growing concerns over Robert Sanchez, whose costly mistakes featured in Monday’s 3-2 victory over Fulham.

Martinez is expected to sign a two-year deal with an option for another season. His departure from Villa has become possible following the arrival of Japan international Zion Suzuki, leaving the Argentine out of favour at the club.
