Amazon is formally rolling out Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex across its corporate workforce, moving beyond its in-house Kiro tool, according to an internal note seen by Business Insider.

According to the report by Business Insider, Claude Code will be available company-wide immediately, with Codex set to follow on May 12, Jim Haughwout, Vice President of Amazon Software Builder Experience, told employees. Both tools will operate on Amazon Bedrock and be managed through Amazon Web Services, meaning staff will not need to set up their own infrastructure or manage capacity.

The move significantly widens access to external coding assistants within Amazon, explains the report. Until recently, Claude Code lacked formal approval for production use, forcing engineers to request special clearance. That restriction had prompted complaints from employees who favoured it over the company's own Kiro tool, Business Insider previously reported. The rollout also reflects Amazon's deepening partnerships with leading AI labs, including Anthropic and OpenAI.
