A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to journalist Anis Alamgir in a second case related to alleged illegal wealth accumulation, clearing the way for his release from jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order after hearing a bail petition.
Lawyer Taibur Rahman, appearing for Anis Alamgir, told reporters that there would be no legal bar to his release following the latest bail order.
According to the case details, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Anis on January 15, accusing him of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
The ACC assistant director and investigation officer, Akhteruzzaman, later applied to the court to show him arrested in the case. The court allowed the prayer on January 25.
Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch took Anis into custody on December 14, 2025. He was later shown arrested in a case filed with the Uttara West Police Station.
The case was filed by Arian Ahmed, a central organiser of the July Revolutionary Alliance, accusing Anis Alamgir along with actress Meher Afroz Shaon, fashion model Maria Kispatta and presenter Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.
Earlier, the High Court granted bail to Anis in another case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. However, he remained in jail after being shown arrested in the corruption case.
