Bangladesh finance and planning minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated on Friday that the government cannot control inflation using the police and the Rapid Action Battalion.
Addressing a post-budget press conference in the capital, the minister dismissed the idea of using law enforcement agencies to handle economic pressures as a ‘wrong concept.’
He emphasised that his government rejects the use of force, relying instead on the proper implementation of economic policy to address rising prices.
The statement follows the minister’s budget announcement on Thursday, where he set an inflation target of 7.5% for the upcoming 2026-27 financial year.
Currently, the 12-month average inflation rate remains above 8 per cent.
