Female voters have outnumbered male voters by more than 20,000 in Bogra’s seven parliamentary constituencies, raising the possibility that increased women’s turnout could decisively influence election results in several seats. With women forming more than half of the voters, contesting candidates are placing special emphasis on ensuring their participation at polling centres.

According to the Bogra District Senior Election Officer’s Office, the district consists of 12 upazilas, 12 municipalities and 109 unions, comprising seven parliamentary constituencies. There are 983 permanent polling centres with 5,478 polling booths. The total number of voters stands at 2,981,940, including 1,408,871 male and 1,501,027 female. The district also has 42 registered third-gender (hijra) voters. The updated voter list includes nearly 100,000 new voters, while around 50,000 names have been dropped.

Sultan Mahmud, principal of Nungola Degree College, said that women voters are generally enthusiastic about voting. “If a secure and fair environment is ensured at polling centres, women will come out in large numbers. In many centres, women’s votes will determine the final result,” he said.

KG Faruk, general secretary of the Campaign for Good Governance (SUPRO) in Bogra, echoed the view, stating that women’s participation could significantly affect outcomes. “With more than 20,000 additional female voters across the seven seats, higher turnout among women could change results in multiple constituencies,” he said.

Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Atowar Rahman said that extensive security measures are being taken for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election. Of the 983 polling centres, 190 have been identified as highly vulnerable, 310 as vulnerable, and the rest as general. “Army personnel, RAB, police and Ansar members will be deployed to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election. CCTV cameras may be installed at important centres, and mobile patrol teams will remain active,” he said.

Bogra Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Toufiqul Rahman stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure a credible and fair election. He said judicial courts are monitoring compliance with the electoral code of conduct and urged citizens to share any information that may assist election authorities.
