The High Court today granted ad-interim bail to Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, in five cases, including four over murder, filed in connection with the July Uprising.
The HC bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher granted the bail following five separate petitions filed by Ivy, who is currently in jail.
Ivy, however, cannot be released from jail following the HC orders of bail as the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the HC orders that in November last year granted her bail in five other cases, Advocate SM Hridoy Rahman, a lawyer for Ivy, told The Daily Star.
Senior lawyer Sara Hossain appeared for Ivy during the hearing, along with Advocate Hridoy.
In November last year, the High Court had granted bail to Ivy in five cases, including over the murder of garment worker Minarul Islam, filed over incidents during the July Uprising.
However, the Appellate Division later stayed the HC orders of bail in all five cases.
Ivy was subsequently shown arrested in five other cases, including four over murder, filed with Fatullah police station, lawyer Hridoy added.
