A cabinet committee has reviewed the draft Cyber Security (Amendment) Act, 2026, as part of the government's efforts to update Bangladesh's cyber security legislation.
The meeting was held on July 15 at the Posts and Telecommunications Division's conference room in the Secretariat, said a press release.
Faqir Mahbub Anam, minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology, chaired the meeting in his capacity as the committee's convenor. The committee was formed to examine and finalise the draft law.
Members discussed key provisions of the proposed amendment, focusing on addressing rapid technological change, strengthening cyber security, safeguarding citizens' rights, and ensuring a safer environment for digital services.
The committee put forward a set of recommendations to make the draft more relevant, effective and practical. These will be incorporated into the draft before the committee reconvenes to finalise the law.
The meeting was attended by Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
Rehan Asif Asad, the prime minister's adviser on the Ministries of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology, along with senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies, was also present.
