Bangladesh will not be participating in the T20 World Cup, which begins tomorrow in India and Sri Lanka. Scotland have replaced Bangladesh in the 20-team event.
Despite Bangladesh’s absence from the tournament, the country will still have representation through Athar Ali Khan. The popular commentator has been named in the star-studded commentary panel for the ICC’s mega event.
On Friday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the commentary panel for the T20 World Cup, with a total of 40 commentators selected. The panel will be led by legendary figures such as Ravi Shastri, Nasser Hussain, Ian Smith and Ian Bishop. Joining them will be Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia’s title-winning team in the 2021 edition. Other former world champions on the panel include Dinesh Karthik, Kumar Sangakkara, Samuel Badree, Robin Uthappa and Carlos Brathwaite.
The list also features former World Cup winners and iconic figures such as Eoin Morgan, Wasim Akram, Sunil Gavaskar, Matthew Hayden and Ramiz Raja. Renowned voices like Dale Steyn, Michael Atherton, Waqar Younis and Simon Doull will also provide expert analysis of the on-field action.
A few current players have also been included. Temba Bavuma, who recently captained his side to victory in the ICC World Test Championship, will take part in commentary duties. Additionally, Angelo Mathews, the experienced Sri Lankan all-rounder and a member of the 2014 T20 World Cup-winning team, has also been named.
The ICC stated that these commentators will be used across 55 matches throughout the tournament. ICC.tv’s coverage will include pre-match shows, interval analysis, post-match discussions and daily highlights programmes. From the knockout stages through to the final on 8 March, the full intensity and excitement of the tournament will be captured across these broadcasts.
