Donald Trump has urged his supporters to boycott Bruce Springsteen’s ongoing “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour”, escalating a public feud after the musician criticised his administration during recent performances.

Posting on his social media platform, Trump criticised Springsteen’s music and appearance, and encouraged his MAGA base to avoid the concerts, calling them overpriced. He also defended his own political record, contrasting it with that of Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

The remarks came after Springsteen used the opening night of his tour in Minneapolis to deliver a series of politically charged speeches. During the performance, the artist criticised the Trump administration, accusing it of corruption and of damaging the country’s global reputation. He described the current political climate as one that has shifted perceptions of the United States internationally.

Springsteen had earlier indicated in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune that his tour would be “political and topical”, reflecting current national issues. He also referred to Trump as someone who “can’t handle the truth” during his on-stage remarks.

In response to Trump’s comments, leaders of the American Federation of Musicians issued a statement condemning the personal attacks. They praised Springsteen as a prominent voice for working people and defended his right to freedom of expression, stating that artists should be able to speak openly without facing personal criticism.

Springsteen has not directly responded to Trump’s call for a boycott. However, he previously told Time magazine that he remains outspoken because he believes many people have been misled politically. In a separate interview, he said he is unconcerned about losing fans over his views, adding that public reaction is “part of the job”.

The tour is set to continue with upcoming performances in Portland, Oregon, followed by shows in Los Angeles.
