Disney has officially moved forward with its live-action adaptation of "Tangled", casting Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.
The film is based on Disney's 2010 animated hit Tangled, which reimagined the classic fairy tale of a magically long-haired princess who escapes her tower with the help of a charming outlaw. The original animated feature, voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, grossed more than $591 million worldwide and later expanded into the short film Tangled Ever After and the Disney Channel series Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.
The live-action version will be directed by Michael Gracey, best known for The Greatest Showman. The screenplay has been written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, with Kristin Burr producing and Lucy Kitada serving as executive producer. Disney has not yet announced a release date or additional production details.
Croft is widely recognised for playing Rachel Roth, also known as Raven, in the DC series "Titans", and for starring in the Netflix film True Spirit, where she portrayed Australian sailor Jessica Watson. Manheim is a familiar face to Disney audiences through the "Zombies" franchise and was runner-up on season 27 of "Dancing with the Stars". He is the son of Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress Camryn Manheim.
The Tangled remake is the latest addition to Disney's growing slate of live-action adaptations, following titles such as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan, Dumbo, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Lilo & Stitch. Development on Tangled was first reported in late 2024, though the project was briefly paused earlier this year after the modest box office performance of Snow White. The casting news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Disney continues its live-action push with Moana—starring Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Catherine Laga'aia—set for release on July 10.
