Paramount Pictures has confirmed a theatrical release date for its long-anticipated film adaptation of the Call of Duty video game franchise, revealing the project at this week's CinemaCon industry convention in Las Vegas.
The studio announced that the film will open on 30 June 2028 and will be directed by Pete Berg from a script by Taylor Sheridan. Berg said in a video message to the convention that he and Sheridan are prioritising authenticity in their portrayal of elite soldiers, on both a human level and in terms of scale.
Call of Duty is one of the highest-grossing gaming franchises in history, counting one billion players and $35 billion in lifetime revenue. The franchise is backed by Activision, now owned by Microsoft, and encompasses more than 30 mainline games released since the original debuted in 2003.
Plot details and casting have not yet been announced. While the deal is structured around a single film, sources have indicated it includes options to expand the Call of Duty universe across film and television.
Paramount has had prior success adapting video games for the screen, most notably with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
