The police are expected to submit the charge sheet today in the case filed over the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl child whose body parts were recently found in a house in the capital’s Mirpur area.
The Criminal Investigation Department on Saturday handed over the DNA test and viscera reports to police.
CID special superintendent of police (media) Jasim Uddin Khan told New Age, ‘We have handed over DNA and viscera reports to police today (Saturday).’
A high-level official, aware of the development, said that the investigators would submit the charge sheet on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest at a workshop titled ‘Coordinated Initiatives, Responsibilities and Implementation Strategies in Legal Aid’ at the BRAC Centre Inn at Mohakhali, law minister Md Asaduzzaman said that the public holiday for Eid will begin on May 25.
If the DNA report was done before that and the charge sheet could be filed before Eid, then it would be possible to start the judicial process immediately after Eid, he said.
Meanwhile, the law ministry notification says that Supreme Court lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulu has been appointed as special public prosecutor to conduct the trial of the case for the state.
The rape and murder of the child shocked the nation again and sparked widespread protests across the country demanding speedy and exemplary trial.
Different social, cultural and political organisations on Saturday continued to stage protest demonstrations in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country demanding justice.
Sammilita Nagarik Shamaj, UNI Bangladesh Liaison Council Women Committee, Bangladesh Journalists Unity Council, and Society for Civil Rights Movement formed separate human chains in front of the National Press Club in the capital while Bangladesh Child Protection Initiative formed a human chain in front of the National Parliament building, demanding speedy and exemplary trial in the case.
Besides, Gaibandha unit of the Bangladesh Pragati Lekhak Shangha organised a cultural protest demonstration in Gaibandha pressing the same demands.
On May 19, the police recovered the Mirpur girl’s body parts in prime accused Md Sohel Rana’s house at Section 11 of Pallabi and her slit head was later found in a bucket in the house.
On May 20, a Dhaka court sent Sohel to jail after recording his confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure while another court sent his wife Swapna Akter to jail.
