The Chattogram City Corporation yesterday announced a Tk 2,260.24 crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, prioritising self-reliance, mosquito control, and solving the port city’s long-standing waterlogging problem.
CCC Mayor Shahadat Hossain unveiled the budget at the Theatre Institute Chattogram auditorium in the city.
The mayor also announced a revised budget of Tk 1,665.92 crore for the outgoing FY2025-26 against the original allocation of Tk 2,145.42 crore, marking a 78 percent budget implementation rate.
Of the total proposed budget for FY2026-27, the corporation plans to earn Tk 1,197.62 crore from its own sources, including Tk 811.90 crore from holding tax and other tax sectors.
Meanwhile, Tk 975 crore has been targeted from government development grants.
The CCC has earmarked Tk 112 crore for waterlogging mitigation, up from previous fiscal year’s allocation of Tk 75 crore.
Similarly, Tk 25 crore has been allocated for mosquito control activities, up from Tk 9 crore allocated in the previous fiscal year.
It allocated Tk 1,035 crore for expenditure on development projects, road construction, repairs, and infrastructure setup; Tk 184 crore for debt repayment; and Tk 827.97 crore for operational and maintenance costs, including Tk 480.85 crore for staff salaries and allowances.
Mayor Shahadat also said the CCC has set up a review board to reassess and rationalise holding taxes that were “unreasonably” hiked in the past.
