Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday condemned the comment of home minister Salahuddin Ahmed for his remarks that calling for ‘death penalty openly’ for rapists as the highest punishment is a form of ‘medieval brutality’.
In a statement, party secretary general Mia Golam Parwar said that the home minister’s comment ignored the judiciary system of Prophet Muhammad.
He further said that policymakers of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party frequently stated that they would run the country based on the Madina Sanad and would not enact any law against Sharia principles.
But the home minister’s remarks contradicted the judiciary of Prophet Muhammad and could hurt the sentiment of the Muslims, Golam Parwar said.
Golam Parwar urged the home minister to withdraw his controversial statement.
