Actor Jaya Ahsan has congratulated veteran actor Babita on receiving the Ekushey Padak, praising her enduring contribution to Bangladeshi cinema.

In a Facebook post, Jaya described Babita as “the powerhouse of our acting industry”, recalling her admiration since childhood. Reflecting on a personal memory, she wrote, “As a child, I would tidy my hair and walk around wearing my mother’s oversized high heels. If anyone asked my name, I would reply, ‘I am Kabita’s daughter Babita.’ I couldn’t even pronounce Kabita properly.”

Jaya noted that Babita remains an inspiration among the country’s accomplished actors. “From her, we have learned how acting becomes art, and how an artiste carries personality and grace,” she wrote, adding that many otherwise weak films remain memorable solely because of Bobita’s performance.

She also highlighted Babita’s international recognition, particularly her acclaimed performance in Satyajit Ray’s “Ashani Sanket”. Jaya wrote that despite working in an underdeveloped industry at the time, Babita drew the attention of world cinema through her remarkable strength as an actor.

Concluding her post, Jaya said Babita has already received the country’s greatest honour — the love of its people — and extended her heartfelt congratulations.
