The body of a journalist's wife was recovered from home in Rajshahi this evening, with her husband found injured at the same location.

The deceased was identified as Roushan Ara, 50. Her husband, Golam Kibria Kamal, 55, is the deputy editor of local daily Rajshahi Sangbad.

The couple lived in a rented flat in the Hargram Bazar area.

Police said they rescued the couple after receiving a call to the national emergency helpline 999 and took them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where doctors declared Roushan dead on arrival.

Dr Billal Uddin of the hospital's emergency department said Roushan was brought dead with a piece of cloth wrapped around her neck. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after autopsy.

He added that Kamal sustained injuries to his hands and legs and had consumed a chemical. His condition remains critical, and he is undergoing treatment.

Police said the couple lived on the third floor of a three-storey building. When officers arrived, Roushan was found on the floor, while Kamal was found injured on the bed.

Rajshahi Sangbad Editor Ahsan Habib Opu said, "We do not know how the incident happened. Kamal's condition is critical."

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Additional Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman said police and a CID team are working at the scene. "An investigation is underway. We are not yet in a position to comment on how the incident occurred," he added.
