A domestic dispute between a couple led police to uncover the alleged murder of an easy bike driver who had been missing for nearly five months in Khulna, with his body recovered from the yard of a house today.
The body of Maruf, 25, was exhumed around noon from a house in the Blue Well Residential Area near the Harintana railway bridge. Police detained the house owner, Murad Molla, and his wife, Falguni Khatun.
According to police, Falguni went to Harintana Police Station alleging that her husband had assaulted her during an argument. While speaking to officers, she disclosed that Murad had allegedly killed Maruf, who was known to them, stolen his easy bike, and later dismantled and sold it.
Acting on the information, police detained Murad and recovered the body from the location identified by the couple.
Md Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Harintana Police Station, said police believe the suspects called Maruf, who lived in the same area, to their house during last Ramadan. While he was sitting on his easy bike, he was allegedly strangled with a rope from behind. His body was buried in the yard that night, while the easy bike was later dismantled and sold.
The body has been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Police said the investigation is ongoing and a case is being filed.
