A madrasa teacher has been accused of repeatedly raping a 10-year-old student in Noakhali Sadar upazila.
Locals detained the teacher and beat him before handing him over to police. The victim’s mother filed a case with Sudharam Model Police Station today.
The alleged assault took place around 6:00pm on Monday in Ashwadia union.
The detainee, Maulana Emran, is from the same union. The victim is a class 5 student at a local madrasa where Emran teaches.
Emran is currently receiving treatment under police guard at Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital.
According to police and the victim’s family, the girl had become less attentive to her studies over the past few months. After noticing physical changes, her family took her to a private hospital in the district town on Monday, where doctors found that she was pregnant.
The girl later told her parents that Emran had allegedly raped her repeatedly over the previous five to six months.
Police said Emran used to tutor the girl privately at his residence, where the alleged assaults occurred.
As news spread, locals detained him yesterday evening and beat him. Police later rescued him and took him to Noakhali General Hospital around 9:15pm for treatment.
Md Idrisur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Sudharam Model Police Station, confirmed that a case had been filed.
Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the teacher had been shown arrested in the case.
“The child’s mother filed a case today, and the teacher has been shown arrested in connection with it,” he said. “He is currently undergoing treatment in police custody at Noakhali General Hospital. Once recovered, he will be produced before the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.”
