The National Citizen Party (NCP) has suspended the next legs of its "July March" campaign scheduled for today in Moulvibazar's Rajnagar and Kulaura following an alleged attack on a convoy carrying its senior leaders in Habiganj.

NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Pritam Das said they will hold a procession and rally in Habiganj town instead at 3:00pm today.

According to him, senior leaders including Nahid Islam, Nasiruddin Patwary, Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah are expected to attend the rally.

The attack occurred yesterday afternoon after an NCP procession in Habiganj town. A convoy carrying Nasiruddin and Sarjis was attacked, leaving at least 15 party leaders, activists and journalists injured, according to the party.

Pritam alleged that attackers vandalised a vehicle carrying the party's media team and seized journalists' phones and cameras.

The NCP alleged that local Chhatra Dal activists were behind the attack.

In a Facebook post, Nasiruddin claimed members of Habiganj Chhatra Dal carried out the assault while police and Rab personnel failed to intervene.

In a separate Facebook post, Sarjis addressed BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, accusing him of using "criminals" to cling to power.

However, Moulvibazar District Chhatra Dal President Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon denied any involvement by his party's activists.

“If someone comes to the peaceful town of Habiganj and attempts to create unrest by making offensive remarks, they must bear responsibility for the consequences. No one else should be held accountable,” he said.

Referring to the incident, Rajib added, “I learned about the unfortunate incident yesterday. Chhatra Dal leaders and activists had no involvement. From what I heard, some enraged individuals chased him after he made offensive remarks.”
