Police detained 23 leaders and activists of Awami League, whose activities remain banned, and its associate organisations from different parts of the Dhanmondi area in Dhaka this afternoon.

Teams from Dhanmondi Police Station detained them from Taqwa Mosque, Sobhanbagh Mosque and the Dhanmondi 32 area while they were preparing for a procession, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dhanmondi Zone) Zishanul Haque told The Daily Star.

He said those detained included leaders and activists from different districts and upazilas across the country.

However, their identities and details of possible legal action were not immediately disclosed.
