Police recovered the decomposed bodies of an unidentified man and woman, along with a newborn, from a locked room in Jamgora area of Ashulia, Savar, early today.
The bodies were recovered around 2:30am from a room on the second floor of a four-storey building in Madhya Jamgora, said Mohammad Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.
The OC said the two adults had rented the room a few days ago, introducing themselves as husband and wife. The woman was nearly five months pregnant.
Local residents alerted police last night after noticing a foul smell coming from the locked room.
“After reaching the scene, we found three decomposed bodies inside the room,” the OC said, adding that police were trying to identify the two adults.
“The baby may have been delivered after the woman died, as her body had already started decomposing,” he added.
A forensic team from the Criminal Investigation Department visited the scene and collected evidence.
“We initially suspect it was a murder. Details will be shared later,” the OC said.
