At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in Sylhet’s Dakshin Surma Upazila this morning.

The identities of the deceased and injured could not be immediately confirmed.

The crash occurred around 6:00am in Telibazar area when a jackfruit-laden truck collided with another truck carrying labourers, said Manjurul Alam, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).

Four people died on the spot, while four others succumbed to their injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital.

“Several injured victims are undergoing treatment at  the hospital, with some reported to be in critical condition,” he added.
