A young man preparing for his wedding, scheduled for tomorrow, died in a car accident in Garmati area of the Natore-Pabna highway in Natore's Gurudaspur upazila this morning.
The victim is Julfikar Islam Jillur, 26, of Nawdapara village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, said police.
Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bonpara Highway Police Station, said Jillur was driving his private car towards his sister's house in Garmati village in Gurudaspur upazila to invite his sister’s family to the wedding.
When the car reached near the Garmati Colony area around 8:30am, he lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a roadside tree and died on the spot.
The police official said the usually busy highway was relatively empty due to the Eid vacation. As the road was clear, he was likely driving at a high speed. At one point, he lost control of the steering and crashed into a roadside tree.
Police and firefighters recovered the body and handed it over to his family without any autopsy.
When the body arrived at his home in Ishwardi, the festive atmosphere of the wedding house turned into a scene of deep mourning."We were preparing for his marriage; we never imagined we would be arranging his burial instead. We cannot accept this pain and sorrow," said Md Rafikul Islam, the victim's brother.
