Ranveer Singh’s spy action thriller “Dhurandhar”, directed by Aditya Dhar, has set a new benchmark for post-theatrical Hindi releases on streaming by registering 7.6 million views in its opening weekend on Netflix. The film, which premiered on January 30 after a highly successful theatrical run, surpassed the first-weekend viewership of major titles such as “Animal”, “Fighter”, and “Pushpa 2: The Rule”.
According to Netflix data, “Animal” previously held the record with 6.2 million opening-weekend views, followed by “Fighter” with 5.9 million and “Pushpa 2: The Rule” with 5 million. “Dhurandhar” not only crossed the 7-million mark—an unprecedented feat for an Indian post-theatrical digital debut—but also topped the global weekly Top 10 list of non-English films across seven countries. The film has accumulated 26.1 million viewing hours and is trending at number one in Pakistan despite not receiving a theatrical release there.
The film stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy infiltrating criminal networks in Pakistan’s Lyari to dismantle a terror operation targeting India. The ensemble cast includes Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan in key roles, alongside Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in supporting appearances. At the box office, “Dhurandhar” reportedly grossed over ₹1,300 crore worldwide and became the first Bollywood film to cross ₹1,000 crore domestically.
A sequel, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge”, is already in the pipeline, with Ranveer Singh set to reprise his role alongside Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan. The follow-up is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
