Meta has introduced two new smart glasses designed for users who require prescription lenses on March 31.
The devices will be available from April 14 through optical retailers in the United States and selected international markets, with prices starting at $499. The launch includes two frames: Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2), which features a rectangular design available in multiple sizes, and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber (Gen 2), a more rounded alternative.
Meta said the glasses are designed for extended wear, incorporating adjustable components such as flexible hinges, interchangeable nose pads and customisable temple tips to improve fit. Developed in collaboration with Ray-Ban, the new models are intended to support a wider range of prescriptions and cater to users who rely on glasses throughout the day.
Alongside the new models, the company is introducing additional colour and lens combinations across its existing smart eyewear lineup, including updates to Ray-Ban and Oakley frames.
Meta is also expanding the functionality of its smart glasses through new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The company said users will be able to log meals using voice commands or images, with AI-generated insights designed to track nutrition over time.
Additional features include hands-free message summaries on WhatsApp, allowing users to request updates from group chats or retrieve specific information through voice prompts. The company said these interactions are processed on-device and remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
A further update introduces what Meta describes as “neural handwriting”, enabling users to write messages by tracing letters on a surface with their finger. The feature is designed to support discreet communication and will function across platforms including Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, as well as standard messaging services on mobile devices.
