BNP reported its highest annual income in at least 11 years in 2025, earning Tk 22.19 crore, according to the party’s audited financial statement submitted to the Election Commission (EC).
Compared with 2024, the party’s income rose by around 42 percent last year, while expenditure more than tripled, reflecting a significant expansion of its financial activities.
BNP reported an expenditure of Tk 15.26 crore for the 2025 calendar year, resulting in a surplus of around Tk 6.93 crore.
The latest statement marks a sharp rise from 2024, when BNP reported an income of Tk 15.65 crore and expenditure of Tk 4.80 crore.
A BNP delegation led by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi yesterday submitted the audit report to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the commission’s headquarters in Agargaon.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, Rizvi confirmed that the party’s income last year stood at Tk 22.19 crore, while expenditure was Tk 15.26 crore.
He said BNP now holds Tk 28.07 crore in total assets, including Tk 28.04 crore in bank deposits and Tk 2.79 lakh in cash. The party’s opening balance at the beginning of 2025 was Tk 21.13 crore.
An 11-year review of BNP’s audited accounts shows its finances fluctuated significantly, with annual income falling below Tk 2 crore for three consecutive years between 2019 and 2021 before recovering in recent years.
The recovery began in 2022, when the party reported an income of Tk 5.9 crore against expenditure of Tk 3.88 crore. Income then rose to Tk 15.65 crore in 2024 before reaching a record Tk 22.19 crore in 2025.
In 2015, BNP reported an income of Tk 1.87 crore and expenditure of Tk 1.73 crore.
Rizvi said the accounts were submitted following due process, adding that the practice strengthens accountability in democratic politics.
“People should know how a political party elected by their votes is run, its sources of income, and where the money is spent,” he said.
BNP Treasurer and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat said the party’s income came from members’ regular subscriptions, donations from individuals and well-wishers, and the sale of nomination forms.
On expenditures, he said money was spent on organisational activities, political programmes, vehicle purchases, printing of leaflets and posters, maintenance of central and local offices, staff salaries, and assistance for impoverished party workers.
The EC recently sent letters to all 56 registered political parties, asking them to submit their financial statements for the previous calendar year by July 31.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), registered political parties must submit their audited annual accounts to the EC by July 31 every year. Failure to do so for three consecutive years may result in cancellation of a party’s registration.
