HBO’s new Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has been praised for its humour, action, and engaging storytelling.

The six-episode series follows Ser Duncan, an inexperienced knight, and his clever squire, Egg, as they journey to a tournament at Ashford Meadow, blending light-hearted comedy with thrilling battles.

Unlike earlier shows, it focuses on a single narrative, features less CGI, and short 35-minute episodes, highlighting the lives of common people over nobility.

Critics have lauded the chemistry between Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, calling it “extraordinary.”

Mixing physical comedy, dry humour, and dramatic fight sequences, the show is accessible even to those new to Westeros.

It premieres January 18 on HBO/HBO Max in the US and Jan 19 on Sky Atlantic and NOW, with Season 2 already in production.
