Bangladesh and India have discussed strengthening bilateral relationship in its various facets and exchanged views on regional and global developments.

“Pleased to host FM Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh and his delegation this afternoon,” Indian Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar shared on X after meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi today.

“Agreed to remain in close touch,” he said.

In the first ministerial visit to India after the BNP assumed office this year, Khalilur, accompanied by Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, reached New Delhi on Tuesday evening.

Last night, he met Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

Today, Khalilur is scheduled to hold meetings with Indian Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal, and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

On April 9, Khalilur and Humayun will travel to Mauritius to attend the Indian Ocean Conference, organised by the India Foundation.

S Jaishankar will also be attending the Indian Ocean Conference from April 10-12, providing scope for further interactions between foreign ministers of Bangladesh and India, diplomatic sources said.

Bangladesh and India's bilateral relationship strained following the political changeover after the July uprising in 2024.

The visit is expected to reset the relations.
