Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday announced seven-day mourning following the death of the party chair and Bangladesh’s three-time former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday morning by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
As part of the programme, black flags will be hoisted at all BNP offices across the country for seven days.
Leaders and activists at all levels of the party will wear black badges during the mourning period, Rizvi said.
During the seven-day period, Quran recitations and prayer gatherings will also be held in all offices across the country as part of the programme.
Rizvi also said that condolence books will be opened at the BNP offices, including the party chair’s office at Gulshan, the central office at Naya Paltan, and district-level offices, where political leaders and well-wishers would be able to write messages paying tribute.
Khaleda Zia, Bangladesh’s first female prime minister, passed away at 6:00am on Tuesday at Evercare hospital in Dhaka while undergoing treatment.
