BNP Standing Committee member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been appointed acting secretary general of the party with immediate effect.
The BNP announced the appointment in a press release issued today.
According to the release, Rizvi was appointed to the post under Section 7(b)(6) of the party constitution. The press statement was signed by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain.
The announcement came after BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president.
On August 15, Rizvi, then senior joint secretary general, was made a member of the party’s Standing Committee. Earlier, on August 13, Fakhrul resigned as BNP secretary general after becoming the party’s candidate for the presidential election.
Rizvi also serves as political adviser and adviser to the Ministry of Industries, with the status of a minister.
