At least three Bangladeshis were killed in landmine explosion in the Myanmar side from Zero line of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border at Ghumdhum union of Naikhongchari upazila in Bandarban on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Leyara Chakma, 41, son of Sunyong Chakma, Aung Kye Mong, 50, son of Neomong Chakma, and Ching Kye Mong, 40, son of Aimong Chakma, all residents of village Bhalukiapara under Ghumdhum Union.
Three Bangladeshis became victim of landmine explosion when they went to collect wood on the zero line of the border at about 12:00pm, said BGB-34 Battalion in Cox’s Bazar commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Khairul Alam.
‘When BGB reached the spot, they found that the victims were already dead. All three deceased were members of Chakma community,’ Khairul told New Age.
BGB CO Khairul said that the bordering areas were now at risk of landmine explosions.
‘BGB is conducting awareness programmes among people in this regard regularly and asking them not to go cross the borderline,’ he added.
