The Cabinet Division has published a gazette notification on the resignation of Mohammed Shahabuddin from the post of president.

According to Cabinet Division sources, the gazette notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, was published after the president resigned yesterday afternoon.

The gazette states: "As the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin has resigned from the post of President, Speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, will perform the duties of the President in accordance with Article 54 of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh until the next President is elected."

Cabinet Division officials said the resignation takes effect as soon as the president signs the resignation letter. The gazette is then published and preserved as part of state formalities.
