A director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Muhammad Mukhlesur Rahman, has stepped down from his position as chairman of the board’s audit committee following allegations of involvement in match-fixing during the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Confirming the development, a BCB director said that Mukhlesur had resigned from the audit committee chairmanship in the wake of the allegations. However, he continues to remain a director of the board.

Mukhlesur, who was elected to the BCB from the Chapainawabganj District Sports Association during the board elections held on October 6 last year, was recently named in media reports alleging his involvement in fixing activities during the 12th edition of the BPL, which concluded on Friday.

The BCB has referred the matter to its Integrity Unit for investigation. “We have already handed the details to Alex Marshall, chairman of the BCB’s Integrity Unit. He will begin his investigation from Saturday,” a BCB director said.

The board acknowledged receiving the allegations and reiterated that a formal investigation will be conducted to determine their validity.

“We have received allegations and it will be investigated,” the director added.
