Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali today urged traders to fully cooperate with magistrates of the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) during market monitoring drives.

Speaking at a meeting with the Moulvibazar Traders' Association in Dhaka’s Chawkbazar around 3:00pm, the commissioner termed a recent altercation between a trader and a DNCRP magistrate an "undesirable incident".

He urged the traders to help ensure transparency and fair prices in the market. He also instructed them to keep commodity prices stable and refrain from food adulteration during the holy month of Ramadan.

The meeting follows an incident on Wednesday when DNCRP Magistrate Abdul Jabbar Mondol led a drive in the Moulvibazar area in Dhaka to monitor prices ahead of Ramadan. During the drive, Mohammad Ali Bhutto, president of the Moulvibazar Traders' Association, engaged in an altercation with the magistrate over price hikes.

DNCRP Director General Faruq Ahmed summoned the association's leaders to his office following the incident, according to Haji Abul Hashem, vice-president of the traders' platform.

On Thursday morning, Bhutto met the DG at his office and expressed regret over Wednesday's altercation, Hashem told The Daily Star.
