Former student leaders on Saturday observed Selim-Delwar Killing Day in separate programmes with the vow to form unity of all anti-autocratic political organisations.
HM Ibrahim Selim and Kazi Delwar Hossain, who were killed during a demonstration against the autocratic regime of HM Ershad in 1984, were leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, which is now banned.
Former student leaders held a discussion at the seminar room of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad to mark the 42nd anniversary of the killing of the two leaders and wounding of many others when a truck ploughed through the procession of agitating students on February 28 in 1984.
Chaired by former student leader Asadullah Tareqe, the discussion called on all the progressive student organisations to unite against any autocratic rule in the country.
Former student leaders Ruhin Hossain Prince, Abul Hossain, Saleh Ahmed, Raju Ahmed and others spoke at the discussion meeting.
Moreover a group of former student leaders Mushtaq Husain, Bazlur Rashid Firoz, Belal Chowdhury, Saleh Ahmed and others placed a wreath on a makeshift monument at Gulistan.
