A schoolgirl in Netrokona’s Kendua upazila has become pregnant after allegedly being raped repeatedly over several years, according to her family.
Police arrested Md Abu Mia, 50, on Tuesday night in connection with a case filed over the alleged rape.

The main accused, Bakul Mia, 55, remains absconding. He is the joint assistant general secretary of the Kendua municipality BNP and general secretary of the party’s Ward 5 unit.

According to the case complaint, Bakul Mia is a relative of the girl.
Kendua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Tariqul Islam confirmed the details this evening.

The girl's father lodged the case with Kendua Police Station in the early hours of August 26 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act. Five people, including Bakul Mia, were named as accused, along with three to four unidentified individuals. Abu Mia, named as the second accused, was arrested the same night.

Kendua municipality BNP General Secretary Moazzem Hossain confirmed Bakul Mia's positions in the party. He said that if the allegations against any party member were proven, the individual would be expelled irrespective of their standing.

According to the case statement and the victim's family, the girl, now a class 10 student at a local school, was in class 6 when the alleged abuse began. 

On November 20, 2022, while she was returning home from school, Bakul Mia allegedly took her to a house under the pretext of taking her to a doctor. She was allegedly sexually assaulted there, and the assault was recorded on a mobile phone.

The complaint alleges that the accused subsequently used the recording to threaten her and subject her to repeated sexual assault at various locations, with several others allegedly assisting in the abuse. She was allegedly warned against disclosing the incidents to her family.

Between March and April 2025, a woman allegedly linked to Bakul Mia is said to have taken the girl to a house, where she was allegedly assaulted by others. The complaint further alleges that she was subjected to further sexual abuse by different individuals at various times between January and July 2026.

According to her family, the matter came to light on August 1 this year, when the girl had gone to stay with her elder brother in Chattogram.

Family members came across a video circulating on social media and, upon questioning her, learned of the alleged incidents.

A medical examination at a private facility in Chattogram on August 18 found that the girl was six months pregnant, the family said. She returned home on August 25, and after the family learned the full details of the alleged incidents, the case was filed with Kendua Police Station.

The girl has alleged that Bakul Mia and Abu Mia took her to different houses under threat, and that other individuals were also involved in the abuse. She said she feared for her safety and demanded justice.

OC Md Tariqul Islam said Abu Mia was produced before a court following his arrest, which ordered that he be sent to jail. Law enforcement agencies, he added, are working to arrest the remaining accused.
