Music legend Paul McCartney has released a new single, “Days We Left Behind”, while confirming his first studio album in nearly six years, “The Boys of Dungeon Lane”, set for release on May 29.

The track, described as a nostalgic tribute to Liverpool, arrived alongside the official announcement of the album, which McCartney has been developing with producer Andrew Watt. The upcoming project will mark his first release since “McCartney III” in 2020.

According to the album’s description, “The Boys of Dungeon Lane” is one of McCartney’s most introspective works, drawing heavily from his childhood in post-war Liverpool. The songs reflect memories of his early life, including moments shared with John Lennon and George Harrison, long before global fame with The Beatles.

Speaking about the single, McCartney described it as a “memory song,” centred on personal reflections and the places that shaped his upbringing. The album title itself is derived from a lyric in the track, referencing a real street near his childhood home.

Musically, the album is expected to blend a wide range of styles, from classic rock influences reminiscent of Wings to melodic storytelling and stripped-back compositions. McCartney reportedly played multiple instruments on the record, continuing a tradition from his earlier solo work.

The project has been in development for several years, with recording sessions taking place between tour schedules in locations including Los Angeles and Sussex. With no strict deadlines, the album was completed at a pace that allowed for experimentation and creative freedom.

The release was teased earlier through a series of promotional clues across Liverpool, including posters and social media hints, building anticipation among fans.

“Days We Left Behind” premiered on BBC Radio Merseyside and is now available on digital platforms worldwide.
