A woman was killed and valuables were looted after intruders broke into her apartment in Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The victim was identified as Sara Roksana Pinu, 42.

She lived with her husband and two school-going daughters in a six-storey building in Faydabad. She was alone at home when the incident occurred.

Police said the assailants cut through the grille of a second-floor window, entered the apartment, suffocated her, and fled with household valuables.

Dakshinkhan Additional Deputy Commissioner Ershad Khan said the body was recovered around 3:00pm.

“We suspect she was suffocated. Some valuables are missing. It is not yet clear whether this was a case of burglary or linked to previous enmity,” he told The Daily Star.

Uttara police Deputy Commissioner Mirza Tarek Ahmed said CID’s crime scene unit was collecting evidence from the spot.

Police said further details would be known after the investigation.
