Young filmmakers and screenwriters now have the opportunity to submit film proposals and compete for a total prize fund of Tk 10 lakh. This initiative has been launched to support the creative development of emerging talent.

The support will be provided through the West Meets East Lab, an important platform for collaboration between local and international partners. The lab is held under the Dhaka International Film Festival.

In a press release, Ahmed Muztaba Jamal, Director of the Dhaka International Film Festival, said that a major change has been introduced in this year’s lab, with applications now open to young filmmakers from all Asian countries.

He believes this expansion will further broaden opportunities for emerging filmmakers.

Addressing young filmmakers, the festival director said, “This expansion is part of our continued effort to build a strong and interconnected platform for Asian storytellers. Through the selected projects, young creators will have the opportunity to present their work on an international level. This will not only increase competition but also encourage talented young filmmakers to submit stronger projects and secure opportunities.”

The press release stated that 10 screenplays will be selected from the submitted projects. In the next phase, participants will join a four-day programme where they will develop their selected screenplays under the supervision of experienced mentors.

Through workshops and mentorship, participants will have the opportunity to refine their stories and elevate them to an international standard, while also building new professional networks.

The notice further stated that project submissions will be accepted from April 30 to June 30.

The 25th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival will be held from January 9 to 17 next year. As part of the festival, the West Meets East Lab will run from January 12 to 15.

On the final day, three projects will be selected for awards. The first, second, and third prize winners will receive Tk 5 lakh, Tk 3 lakh, and Tk 2 lakh respectively.
