Narayanganj-3 BNP MP Azharul Islam Mannan today sought a list of police personnel serving in the district whose family homes are in Gopalganj.

The BNP lawmaker sought the list at the monthly law and order committee meeting held at the Narayanganj deputy commissioner’s office.

The meeting was presided over by Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Raihan Kabir and attended, among others, by the district’s Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Munshi.

Asking the DC and SP to provide a list, the lawmaker said, “We want to know who is posted at which police station in Narayanganj and whose home is in which district.”

The MP alleged that people from Gopalganj had “dominated” the district administration before August 5 and were once again filling key positions across the Narayanganj administration.

“How can law and order improve in such a situation?” he said, adding that he would also raise the issue with the home minister.

At the meeting, the BNP lawmaker also alleged extortion on river routes, claiming that money is collected from sand-laden bulkheads operating on the Meghna and other rivers.

He accused some officials of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) of being involved in the practice.

The MP further alleged widespread illegal gas connections in his constituency’s Sonargaon area, blaming officials of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company. He claimed that around 65,000 illegal gas connections had been provided in Sonargaon, Rupganj and Araihazar during the previous Awami League government.

“If cases are filed over illegal gas connections, Titas officials should be made the prime accused,” he said.

Narayanganj-5 MP Advocate Abul Kalam, Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Masukul Islam Rajib and officials from different government departments attended the event.
