A police inspector has been withdrawn over the allegation of raping a 13-year-old girl in Noakhali’s Hatia upazila.

The in-charge of the Jahajmara Police Investigation Centre, Khorshed Alam, was withdrawn from duty and attached to the police lines,  said a notice signed by Noakhali superintendent of police TM Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday night.

The victim girl alleged that she was raped in the mess of the centre about six months ago.

According to the girl, her mother and brother worked as cooks in the mess and she used to go there occasionally. The accused officer told her to clean his room, wash clothes and make the bed.

She alleged that he raped her multiple times through intimidation and death threats against her and her mother, adding that the police personnel also gave her Tk 500 to 1,000 to lure her with the promise of a mobile phone.

The victim told her mother about the matter on January 5 this year and the mother later complained to the assistant superintendent of police of Hatia Circle.

The victim’s family have been in fear for about four months as two local men forcibly took their signatures on a white paper on behalf of the accused, claimed the family.

Inspector Khorshed, however, denied the allegations and claimed that a sub-inspector, upon his transfer, made a fake video with the help of the maid.

The charges were brought against him to humiliate him socially, he claimed.

Hatia police station officer-in-charge Kabir Hossain said that a complaint was raised against Khorshed over a video that went viral on Saturday.

He was immediately withdrawn after the matter came to the attention of the police, said Kabir.
