The bodies of two Bangladeshi migrants -- Sadar Ali and Shafiqul Islam -- who were killed in a cooking gas cylinder blast in Maldives on Thursday will be brought back home today, foreign ministry said yesterday.
Altogether, five Bangladeshi nationals -- Taj Uddin Islam, Sadar Ali, Robin Molla, Shafiqul Islam, and Nurnabi Sarkar -- were killed in the fire at the guesthouse on Dhigurah Island, 100km from the capital Male, while two others -- Jamal Uddin and Saddam Hossain -- were injured.
Immediately after receiving news of the incident, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Nazmul Islam and other officials visited the injured at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Malé and inquired about their treatment, the foreign ministry said in a statement yesterday.
He also visited the Galolhu morgue to pay his respects to the deceased and reaffirmed that efforts are being made to send the bodies back to Bangladesh as soon as possible.
High Commissioner Dr Md Nazmul Islam and the embassy have already been in constant contact with the families of the victims and are providing them with full support.
He has also contacted the concerned company to ensure appropriate compensation for the deceased.
The two seriously injured Bangladeshis have been transferred to a hospital in Malé for advanced treatment, and their condition is being closely monitored, it added.
