Police arrested 42 people and seized heroin, yaba tablets and drug paraphernalia during an anti-narcotics drive at the Mazar slum in Gazipur’s Tongi last night.

The operation was conducted at the slum as part of an ongoing anti-drug campaign, police said.

According to the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), officers recovered around 270 grams of heroin, 20 yaba tablets and various items used for consuming drugs during the raid.

Mohammad Belayet Hossain, additional commissioner of police (Crime and Operations) of the GMP, said the 42 arrestees would be produced before a court today.

"We will continue such operations until drugs are completely eradicated from Tongi," he told The Daily Star.

He said those arrested were accused of drug abuse and involvement in drug-related activities.

The anti-narcotics drive will continue on a regular basis as part of efforts to curb the drug trade and substance abuse in the area, he added.
