Members of the Bangladeshi community in Sheffield on Sunday came together for a vibrant picnic, enjoying a day filled with traditional games, cultural activities, and delicious homemade food.
With a view to strengthening social bonds, promoting cultural heritage, and providing an opportunity for Bangladeshis to mingle in a relaxed and festive atmosphere, Sompritir Bangladesh (Harmonious Bangladesh), an organisation of Bangladeshi expatriates in Sheffield, held the event, according to a press release.
Led by Syed Mujakkir Ahmad, the president of the organisation, participants had a brisk trek at the Hope Valley, a mountainous landscape in Derbyshire, England, as the first leg of the event.
Community leaders Sheikh Abdul Kaium, Masum Martuza, Abdur Rahman Musa, Abdul Jolil, and Qamrul Chowdhury attended the event, among others.
Later, moderated by Elius Akram, secretary of the organisation, a cultural programme was held at Millhouse Park in Sheffield as the second leg of the event.
The programme featured a range of traditional Bangladeshi outdoor games, including the tug-of-war and the blindfolded bucket-breaking game, creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement for hours.
One of the highlights of the event was the authentic Bangladeshi cuisine, allowing participants to experience the rich flavours of Bangladesh.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the organisers, describing the picnic as a memorable day of fun, laughter, and togetherness, and looking forward to similar events in the future.
The event concluded with prize distribution for the winners of various games and group photo sessions, leaving attendees with cherished memories and a renewed sense of community spirit, the release adds.
