Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to swiftly relocate Dhaka’s four intercity bus terminals outside the capital to ease chronic traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.

The instruction came during a meeting chaired by the PM held at the Secretariat today focusing on easing Dhaka’s traffic congestion and modernising traffic management systems, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

The terminals identified for relocation are Fulbaria-Gulistan Bus Terminal, Gabtoli Bus Terminal, Mohakhali Bus Terminal, and Sayedabad-Jatrabari Bus Terminal.

Under the plan, the Fulbaria-Gulistan Bus Terminal will be shifted to Keraniganj. The Mohakhali Bus Terminal will be moved temporarily to the eastern part of the city before being permanently relocated near Tongi. The Gabtoli inter-city bus terminal will be shifted to Hemayetpur, while the Sayedabad-Jatrabari Bus Terminal will be relocated to Kanchpur.

The prime minister also urged the rapid relocation of scattered bus counters across different parts of Dhaka to designated and fixed locations.

At the meeting discussions were also held on the modernisation of Dhaka’s traffic system, including the installation of artificial intelligence-based cameras.

The PM expressed satisfaction that the AI-supported traffic signalling system was already yielding benefits.
