Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a multi-layered security plan, including tighter searches at all entry points to the capital, for the observance of July Mass Uprising Day.

On Tuesday, police said the measures have been taken to maintain law and order and ensure public safety during Wednesday’s observance.

Additional security arrangements have been put in place at key locations across the capital to guard against “possible sabotage, untoward incidents or threats to public safety”.

As part of the plan, searches at all entry points to Dhaka will be intensified, while the number of pickets and checkpoints across the city has been significantly increased.

Detective Branch (DB) officers in plain clothes and members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) will be deployed at major venues hosting Uprising Day programmes.

At locations expecting large crowds, SWAT teams, bomb disposal units and dog squads will carry out sweeping operations to ensure special security.

DMP said all event venues and July memorial sites have been brought under a dedicated security plan, with round-the-clock surveillance through CCTV cameras and drones.

Members of the CTTC unit will maintain continued intelligence activity in these areas.

Sufficient Quick Response Teams (QRT) will be kept ready to tackle any emergency at short notice.

Alongside regular deployments, additional DMP personnel, as well as members of the Rapid Action Battalion and the Criminal Investigation Department, will remain active across the capital to reinforce security.

Senior DMP officers will directly supervise operations in the field throughout the observance.
