A man was hacked to death allegedly by his uncle over a family dispute in Rajshahi's Godagari upazila today.

The deceased, Kawser Ahmed Rocky, 27, was a construction worker in Dhaka and had returned to his home in Achua Bhata village for Eid, police said.

Kawser got into an altercation with his uncle, Robiul Islam, 30, around noon over a long-standing family matter. At one stage, Robiul hacked him with a machete, leaving him critically injured, said Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, quoting locals.

"Locals rushed him to Godagari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. However, Kawser succumbed to his injuries on the way," the OC said.

The body has been sent to the RMCH morgue for autopsy.

Filing of a murder case is underway, and efforts are on to arrest the accused, who fled the scene after the incident, he added.
