Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim has been promoted to the rank of admiral.

The decision was announced in a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.

He was also given the admiral’s rank badge by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman before the commencement of the Bangladesh Air Force and Navy Selection Board-2026, said the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony.

“After he donned the rank badge, the honourable prime minister congratulated the newly appointed Navy chief. At this time, Navy Chief Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim expressed his sincere gratitude to the honourable prime minister on behalf of the Bangladesh Navy and sought his valuable advice and guidance to take the Navy forward as a more modern, capable and timely force. “

Prime Minister's Defence Advisor brigadier general (retired) AKM Shamsul Islam and Chief of Air Staff Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan attended the event.

The government promoted Azim from the rank of rear admiral to the rank of vice admiral on Jul 16 and appointed him as the chief of the Navy. The notice at the time said that he had been appointed to the post for a period of three years until Jul 22, 2028.
