A low-pressure area has formed in the north Bay of Bengal and the adjacent West Bengal-Bangladesh coast, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The BMD asked the country's four maritime ports at Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra to display local cautionary signal No. 3 due to fears from the squally weather.

A warning signed by Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik from the Storm Warning Centre of the BMD on Wednesday morning said the low is likely to intensify.

Due to its influence, squally weather may affect the seaports, the north Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh.

To avoid maritime accidents in the adverse weather, fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been instructed to remain near the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
